Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters

Certification Fees

CCHI recognizes that the costs of pursuing a CCHI certification represent an investment by healthcare interpreters and their employers/contractors in their future. The fees to participate in CCHI’s certification program pay for the costs of receiving and reviewing your application for eligibility, delivering and scoring the CCHI examination(s), providing a Registry of Certified Interpreters, and maintaining a certification renewal process.  At this point, we are unable to offer any scholarships or financial aid but CCHI will continue to work with you, our supporters, and others to identify ways to provide financial aid to assist in examination(s) costs.

Application and CoreCHI™ examination fees – $210 (=$35+$175)

This fee is due upon submission of the application and covers 1) the costs of processing your application and determining your eligibility to take CCHI’s examination, and 2) the cost of taking and scoring one CoreCHI™ multiple-choice examination. The application fee of $35 is non-refundable even if an applicant is determined ineligible to take CCHI’s examinations. If the application is denied, the CoreCHI™ exam fee of $175 is refunded to a candidate within 10 days of the application denial. If the application is accepted, the CoreCHI™ exam fee is non-refundable and is valid for one administration of the CoreCHI™ exam. If a candidate fails the CoreCHI™ exam, they must pay the CoreCHI™ exam fee again to retake the exam.

CHI™ examination fee – $275

This fee is paid after passing the CoreCHI™ exam but before scheduling your CHI™ exam.  The fee covers the cost of taking and scoring one CHI™ language-specific performance examination. The CHI™ examination fee is non-refundable and due before a candidate can schedule their CHI™ exam.

Fee Payments are made in U.S. dollars online with a credit or debit card. The online application process uses a secure server.

Forfeiture of Fees

Candidates can schedule their CoreCHI™ examination or CHI™ examination once they have received their official Notice to Schedule email.  Each examination has a separate Notice to Schedule that serves as the Admission Ticket to the examination.  If a candidate contacts a test center and schedules their exam before receiving their Notice to Schedule email, they will forfeit their exam fee and/or be required to pay a "reschedule charge".

Candidates who fail to arrive at a Testing Center on the date and time they scheduled their examination will forfeit their examination fees and have to pay an additional examination fee to reschedule their examination.

Candidates who wish to reschedule an examination must comply with CCHI’s test delivery vendor’s rescheduling policy and are responsible for any rescheduling or cancellation fees that may apply. If the candidate does not comply with the testing vendor’s policies, the candidate will forfeit the examination fees already paid. In addition, candidates arriving more than 15 minutes late for an examination will only be admitted for testing at the discretion of the Testing Center; if a candidate is not admitted because of late arrival, the candidate will forfeit their examination fee.
